I live in a small enough town now, that the phone book is only about 1/4 inch thick and I've actually used it to find people that weren't available on a Google search.

Re: Why Do They Still Make Phone Books?

When my cable modem goes out, I use the phone book to look up their 800 number. ;)

Re: Why Do They Still Make Phone Books?

The cost of publishing and distribution is all rolled up and payed for by the advertisor. I think it would cost the distributors more to have to think of a system that determines who gets one and who doesn't than to just place one at every house that has front door or driveway.

For companies like Feist I wonder if there is more of an obligation towards it's advertisors. To assure distribution to each house and business (where even a small business like mine receives 5 or more copies of each) than to worry about their non-direct customers or homeowners.

Re: Why Do They Still Make Phone Books?

I couldn't agree more. I can't remember the last time I used a yellow/white pages. I've called to get off the list, but they deliver it anyway - about twice a year.
